Water therapy is a good option for patients with arthritis, chronic pain, and other conditions that may limit movement. Patients who have had a stroke, back surgery, or a joint replacement can especially benefit, because water exercises ease pressure on the body. Hendricks Regional Health provides aquatic therapy at our Plainfield campus. Traditional therapies are also available in our Plainfield location, which offers private treatment rooms along with a therapy pool.
Some of the benefits of doing physical therapy in the water include:
- Improved range of motion
- Reduced swelling and pain
- Builds strength from water resistance and makes it easier to bear weight
- Less fear of falling for patients with balance problems
Our aquatic therapy patients have a better experience because of the features of our HydroWorx® pool. It was especially designed with a treadmill, resistance jets that give deep tissue massage, and a hydraulic chair lift to make is easy to enter the water.
Sometimes, aquatic therapy is used as part of a total therapy treatment plan. That's because our warm water pool, heated to 92-94 degrees, provides a comfortable place to do exercises that may be difficult to perform on land. Patients often progress to doing therapy techniques outside of the pool, helping them recover to their fullest potential.
