Support Groups

Support Groups

Hendricks Regional Health is proud to facilitate and host a variety of support groups for the community. Groups are designed to provide a supportive environment with opportunities to come together for sharing and learning. All meetings are free to participants, and registration is not required unless specified.

Support Group Offerings

Alzheimer's Support Group

Gives support to caregivers, family and friends of those who suffer from Alzheimer's Disease. The group meets at the Senior Center on the second Thursday of every month at 2 p.m. Call (317) 745- 4303 for more information.

Bariatric Weight Loss Support Group

Offered in conjunction with our partners at St. Vincent Bariatric Center of Excellence. Designed for anyone who has had, or is considering, bariatric surgery. Meets at the Hendricks Regional Health YMCA on the second Thursday of every month from 7:00 - 8:30 p.m. Call (317) 409-3159 for more information.

Bereavement/Grief Support

These groups are facilitated through the Chaplaincy Department and are open support groups. Individuals are welcome to continue attending as long as they wish. Those who attend a bereavement group are free to move from one group to another. For more information, or advice on the group that may best meet your needs, please call our Bereavement Support Group Coordinator at (317) 718-4360.

Emerging

A group for persons ready/eager to let their grief out in a safe gathering with others. Persons may be relatively new in the grief or they may feel like they are finally ready to deal with a loss that is not so recent. Meets every Tuesday from 10 to 11:30 a.m.

Maintaining

A group for persons who seek support in the on-going work of grieving their losses. While the group has many widowed persons whose losses occurred over the past several years, the group is open to new persons as well. Meets every Thursday from 10 to 11:30 a.m.

Comfort Zone

A group for persons who have experienced the loss of a significant person or loved one due to suicide. This group works to honestly face all the emotions that come to the surface as we deal with the painful realities of suicide. Meets the first and third Tuesdays of the month from 6 to 7:30 p.m.

Individual Counseling Sessions

For cancer survivors and their families. Available by appointment. Please call Meaghan at (317) 650-0740 for a brief interview prior to attending.

Diabetes Support Group

This group provides support to caregivers, family, and friends of those who suffer from diabetes. The group utilizes guest speakers and sharing of resources, and meets virtually on the fourth Wednesday of each month at 1 p.m. Call (317) 745-4303 for more information.

Food for Thought Support Group

This group is designed to create and foster a warm environment conducive to the emotional, mental and physical recovery of stroke survivors and those living with a neurological disorder such as multiple sclerosis, traumatic brain injury or dementia. Meets the first and third Thursdays of the month from 4 to 5:30 p.m. in the OR conference room at Hendricks Regional Health Danville. Call (317) 718-4360 for more information.

Improve Your Mood Support Group

Mood regulation issues do not discriminate. Many of us struggle with sadness, loneliness, anxiety, loss of interest or pleasure in activities, low energy, and fluctuations in mood. This group will focus on coping strategies for these conditions in addition to providing processing time for any issues that may be inhibiting successful coping. The group meets every Tuesday at 1:00 p.m. in the Hendricks County Senior Center and is open to anyone 25 years of age or older wishing to improve their mood. Connection with others in this type of setting provides mood enhancement in and of itself. Call Matt at (317) 718-4360 for additional information.

Kidney Disease Support Group

Supportive friends and family can make a huge difference in the lives of men and women dealing with kidney disease, but sometimes their support isn’t enough. Talking with others going through similar experiences can be a much-needed opportunity to share information, get advice and receive and provide support. This group meets on the first Tuesday of each month at Fresenius Medical Services, 1594 East Main Street in Danville, from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m. Call (317) 718-0347 for more information.

Living with Pulmonary Fibrosis

Providing information and support to those diagnosed with pulmonary fibrosis and their loved ones, this group meets on the third Tuesday of every month from 1-2:30 p.m. at the Saint Joseph Catholic Church on 1401 South Mickley Avenue in Indianapolis. Mental Health Support Group

This support group is free of charge and open to anyone struggling with mental health issues. Family and friends of anyone struggling are welcome as well. This informal, relaxed, peer-to-peer group meets every Thursday at 6:30 p.m. in the Mental Health America of Hendricks County Meeting Room, 75 Queensway Drive, Avon. Multiple Sclerosis Support Group

Provides support to anyone whose life has been touched by multiple sclerosis, and utilizes guest speakers and sharing of resources. This group meets on the second Tuesday of each month from 7:00 - 8:30 p.m. at the Hendricks Regional Health Avon Medical Building. Call (317) 442-3372 for more information.

NAMI Indianapolis Support Group

Consumers Group
Peer-led support group for people living with mental illness. The group offers a confidential environment and allows participants to learn from the experiences of other group members, share coping strategies and offer each other encouragement and understanding. This group meets the first and third Mondays of every month at 7:00 p.m. in the Community Room at Hendricks Regional Health Brownsburg Hospital, 5492 Ronald Reagan Parkway, Brownsburg.

Family & Friends Group
Peer-led support group for family members and loved ones of people living with mental illness. The group offers a confidential environment and allows participants to learn from the experiences of other group members, share coping strategies and offer each other encouragement and understanding. This group meets the second and fourth Mondays of every month at 7:00 p.m. in the Community Room at Hendricks Regional Health Brownsburg Hospital, 5492 Ronald Reagan Parkway, Brownsburg.

PAL (Parents of Addicted Loved Ones)

Parents of Addicted Loved Ones is a support group of parents with children addicted to drugs and/or alcohol helping parents of children addicted to drugs and/or alcohol. This group meets every Thursday from 6:30 – 8:00 p.m. at White Lick Presbyterian Church, 2530 N County Road 600 E in Avon, to offer addiction education and support at no charge.

SMART Recovery Support Group

If you’re struggling with addiction, this self-management and recovery training group can help you overcome the challenges you’re facing. Regain your independence in a supportive environment that will help you build and maintain motivation, manage your emotions and abstain from addictive behavior. Meetings are open to everyone; they will be held at the Hendricks Regional Health Brownsburg Hospital Community Room every Wednesday from 6 to 7:15 p.m. If you have questions, contact Matt at (317) 718-4360.

Vision Loss Support Group
