Danville - Hendricks Regional Health is proud to announce it received an "A" in the Fall 2016 Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grades, placing the hospital among the safest in the United States.
The Leapfrog Group, a national patient safety watchdog organization, assigns A, B, C, D and F letter grades to hospitals nationwide based on how well they protect their patients from preventable issues and concerns that can occur during treatment. The Safety Grades provide the most complete picture of avoidable hospital errors, accidents and infections that impact the safety of hundreds of thousands of patients every year throughout the nation. Hendricks Regional Health is one of only 15 of Indiana's 63 hospitals who received "A" rankings in the most recent report.
A highly engaged team of Hendricks Regional Health associates were motivated to improve on the organization's 2015 "C" ranking and earn a place among the country's most elite performing hospitals. This multi-disciplinary group began by determining key patient safety areas to focus on with the greatest opportunity for achieving the best possible outcomes for patients. The team then led departments across the organization in working together to enact identified process improvements and analyze how the measures impacted patient care. This focused approach successfully drove changes that raised Hendricks Regional Health's safety ranking to an "A" for the first time in history.
"This grade is a direct result of our associates' collaborative focus on providing the safest possible environment for our patients and visitors," said Kevin P. Speer, President & CEO of Hendricks Regional Health. "By working together and continuing to develop our skills, we are leveraging the very thing that makes Hendricks Regional Health such a remarkable place to receive care... our team."
Excelling in high-quality, safe care, while remaining a low-cost provider in the market will be a continued focus for Hendricks Regional Health.
"Protecting patients from harm is the most important charge for any hospital," said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. "We recognize and appreciate 'A' hospitals' vigilance and continued dedication to keeping their patients safe."
Developed under the guidance of an Expert Panel, the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade uses 30 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to assign A, B, C, D and F grades to more than 2,600 U.S. hospitals twice per year. To see Hendricks Regional Health's full grade, visit
