Sports Medicine

Biography

Dr. Booher is a sports medicine physician who is board-certified in sports medicine and family practice. Dr. Booher earned his medical degree from the University of Rochester and then completed a family practice residency training at Highland Family Practice, also in Rochester. In 2003, he completed a two-year fellowship in primary care sports medicine at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Dr. Booher cares for patients of all ages and activity levels – you do not need to be an athlete to seek sports medicine care. Anyone experiencing pain, discomfort, or a limited range of motion can benefit from a sports medicine evaluation.

Dr. Booher specializes in working with his patients to go beyond injury treatment to trace the cause of the injury. He then creates a customized care plan – which in about 80 to 90 percent of cases, does not include surgery. Patients leave with an established treatment approach to get them back to the activities they love, no matter if that is a competitive sport or a full and vigorous lifestyle.

Common conditions and injuries treated include: Tennis or Golfer’s elbow, Plantar fasciitis, Achilles tendonitis, Runner’s or Jumper’s knee, Rotator cuff injuries, concussions and fractures. He also performs an in-office procedure called Tenex. This minimally invasive treatment approach is designed for patients experiencing pain from many of the conditions listed above. The procedure uses ultrasound imaging to view and remove damaged tissue. Removing the damaged tissue allows the tendon to heal properly and relieve pain, leaving no stitches. When patients are an ideal fit for Tenex, they often have faster pain relief and a quicker return to their normal activities.

Dr. Booher serves as the medical director for the Hendricks Regional Health sports medicine program. He is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians, the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine, and the American College of Sports Medicine.
