Health Insurance Marketplace

UPDATED FOR 2016 ENROLLMENT

The Health Insurance Marketplace, which has also been called the Health Insurance Exchange, allows you to shop for health insurance that fits your needs and your budget. Hendricks Regional Health participates in these Marketplace plans: United Healthcare (UHC), MDWise, Anthem, CareSource and Mental Health Services (MHS).

As a Certified Application Counselor (CAC) organization, Hendricks Regional Health is available to help people understand, apply and enroll for health coverage through the Marketplace. This assistance is provided by certified navigators who can work with you to prepare electronic and paper applications for eligibility, enrollment, and possible qualification for an insurance affordability program. Navigators are funded through state and federal grant programs, and must complete comprehensive training.

Indiana residents can use HealthCare.gov to apply for coverage, compare plans, and enroll. Open Enrollment for the 2016 Marketplace plans will be from November 1, 2015, through January 31, 2016.

IMPORTANT:
If you don't have health insurance in 2016, you'll pay the higher of these two penalty amounts:

  • Penalty of 2.5% of your yearly household income (only the amount of income above the tax filing threshold, about $10,150 for an individual in 2014, is used to calculate the penalty). The maximum penalty is the national average premium for a Bronze plan.
  • Penalty of $695 per person ($347.50 per child under 18). The maximum penalty per family using this method is $2,085

About the Marketplace

You can use the Marketplace to compare the different options you have for health insurance. Once you've compared the plans and selected the one that best meets your individual or family budget and needs, you can enroll in coverage. In addition, the Marketplace will provide information on the programs available to help you pay for coverage. Enrollees earning between 100-400% of the poverty level can receive subsidies to help pay for monthly premiums. For example: a family of four with a household income of $23,550-$94,200.

You can also find out if you are eligible for other public health coverage programs such as Medicaid, Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP) and Healthy Indiana Plan (HIP 2.0). Hendricks Regional Health hosts free community events at our Danville Campus to help educate residents about the new Indiana Healthy Plan (HIP 2.0).

Available Coverage Options

All health plans sold through Indiana's Health Insurance Marketplace will be required to cover, at a minimum, a set of "Essential Health Benefits." They include services such as doctor visits, hospital stays, preventive care, prescriptions, laboratory services, mental health, maternity and pediatric services. Some offer pediatric dental and vision care. No one can be denied coverage because they have a pre-existing condition.

A variety of coverage options will be offered through the Marketplace and will be categorized by level of coverage, receiving one of four labels based on the percentage of costs covered by the plan and the costs paid by the consumer. The four levels of coverage for plans sold through the Marketplace are Platinum, Gold, Silver and Bronze. Learn more and apply online at Healthcare.gov.
